Blamey Community Group

Blamey Community Group is a community group run solely by volunteers who are connected to the defence lifestyle and currently reside in the Riverina.

Our Purpose

Blamey Community Group is a TRI service, not for profit, community organisation that aims to support defence individuals, veterans and their families by providing a supportive and inclusive environment that facilitates friendships, sharing of knowledge, a sense of belonging and integrating within the local community here in the Riverina.

We hope we can help to facilitate friendships, connection and a sense of community with you while you call the Riverina home.

We are able to run the programs and events we do due to our primary source of funding which comes from the Family Support Funding Program. This is provided by the Department of Defence.

Our MISSION

We aim to support individuals, veterans, partners and their families living the Defence lifestyle by:

  • offering opportunities for the development of support networks, friendships and the sharing of knowledge; 
  • running subsidised or free programs and activities for members to minimise the impacts of the Defence lifestyle;
  • providing a network to assist members to settle into, actively participate in and contribute to the local community; 
  • creating a sense of belonging, identity and integration with the local community.

Your Community Coordinator

My name is Christianne Waters and I am absolutely thrilled to be your BCG Coordinator. 

My family moved to the Riverina in December 2023 and it was in that first week that we felt at home. Since then, my family and I have developed a sense of belonging in Wagga Wagga and more specifically with Blamey Community Group. Having yarns with my neighbours, feeling the warmth of BCG members and connecting with local businesses, brings such joy to our lives and I’m hoping to return that joy and connection to Defence families and the wider Riverina community. 

As your Coordinator I’m looking forward to collaborating with new and existing members to further create opportunities to build positive and meaningful relationships. So please feel free to pop in to BCG, I’ve got the kettle on and I am always up for a chat.

Come down and visit me at Kapooka Community Centre on Monday, Wednesday or Thursday from 8:30am to 3:30pm. I look forward to meeting you soon.
